Terror fears for Danish royal wedding

Security concerns for next month's royal wedding in Denmark have been heightened by the Madrid train bombings, police have confirmed.

What happened in Madrid, although there is no directi relation to Denmark, clearly impacts us and obviously it’s an element we are taking into consideration,” a police spokesman said yesterday.

Crown Prince Frederik will marry Australian-born Mary Donaldson on May 14, with royalty and heads of states from most of Europe and other parts of the world invited.

“There are no concrete threats. But as there is a lot of attention around the wedding, it’s a possible target and therefore the security level is relatively high,” the spokesman said.

But Danish police will have fewer officers on duty for the royal wedding than the 6000 rostered for the European Union summit in Copenhagen in 2002.
