Somaliland, a country without statute

The Republic of Somaliland (North West Somalia), situated on the tip of the Horn of Africa, was formed in 1991 after the declaration of independence from Somalia. The people of Somaliland had experienced more than three years of civil war between 1988 and 1991resulting in the deaths of nearly 60,000 people, massive displacement both internal and to other countries are usual event in the erea.

Many Somalians have been ressetled in Norway through the UNHCR, and their very dream is an implamentation of true peace and tranquillity in their land, which could favorise their return.. In fact that extendEd Diaspora in Norway and in the world are the only resource that keep feeding up the economical structure of the Somaliland.

The Somaliland is not yet recognised internationally as a state, and this hampers aid flows from major donors. However in a constitutional referendum held in May 2001, the people of Somaliland voted in support of their independence. Today is up to the international community to decide and adopt what is right for the people of Somaliland; The recognition of the republic of Somaliland.
