No change on Gaza plan

Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon will not to bow to Jewish settlers' demands for a vote on his plan to move all settlements out of the Gaza Strip.

Participants said a meeting at Mr Sharon’s office ended in acrimony, with settlers calling his attitude shameful.

Under the terms of the plan, all 8,000 settlers in Gaza and four West Bank enclaves would be uprooted next year.

Mr Sharon says the move will boost Israel’s security.

Israel has occupied Gaza, home to 1.3 million Palestinians, since 1967.
