UN chief in Sri Lanka

Kofi Annan tours tsunami-hit Sri Lanka but a visit to rebel-held areas is reportedly vetoed by the government.

He visited a school in the tourist town of Hambantota before flying up the east coast to the port of Trincomalee.

But a visit to areas controlled by Tamil Tigers rebels is off, reportedly vetoed by the government.

Tensions between the rebels and the government are threatening to overshadow the aid effort.

More than 150,000 people have been killed across the Indian Ocean region following the 26 December disaster.
