Iran: Nuclear talks to renew

Iran's chief nuclear negotiator has written to the UK, France and Germany to call for the resumption of stalled talks over its atomic programme.

The three European countries led talks with Tehran on behalf of the EU, which roke down in August when Iran resumed uranium conversion activities in defiance of international calls to maintain a suspension.

The US accuses Iran of using its nuclear power programme to develop nuclear weapons. Iran denies it.

Tehran’s resumption of uranium conversion has led the board of the International Atomic Energy Agency to declare it in breach of its international obligations, resulting in the country being reported to the United Nations Security Council, where it could face sanctions.

The three EU nations have yet to comment on the proposal.
