Peace and Security in a Nuclearised South Asia – Will Deterrence Work?

The Norwegian Institute of International Affairs has the pleasure ofinviting you to a seminar with Dr. Shireen Mazari, Director General, Institute of Strategic Studies, Islamabad.

Dr. Shireen Mazari has been Director General of the Institute of Strategic Studies
in Islamabad, Pakistan since August 2000. She holds a B.Sc. (Hon.) from London
School of Economics, and a Masters, M. Phil and Ph D, from Colombia University,
New York, USA.
She was an Editor-in-Chief and Publisher of PULSE Weekly from 1993 to 1999,
Chairperson/Associate Professor at the Department of Defence and Strategic
Studies, Quaid-i-Azam University in Islamabad from 1988-1993 and a Visiting
lecturer at the National Defence College in Islamabad.
Dr. Mazari is a regular Columnist for the daily The News. She has also hosted
Pakistan Television’s weekly Current Affairs Programme «Current Affairs Time».
She has written extensively on issues of defence and security. Dr. Mazari has
recently authored the book titled The Kargil Conflict 1999: Separating Fact from
Fiction. The book is a ground breaking study of the Kargil Conflict from a
Pakistani perspective.
